Over Injection Molding VS Insert Injection Molding

This video demonstrates the two plastic injection molding processes of overmolding and insert molding.

Overmolding vs Insert Molding: Metal and Plastic vs. Plastic and Plastic Materials

1) Insert molding combines metal and plastic materials in a single mold, allowing you to add a metal insert to the main plastic injection mold. The metal insert used in this process can be a metal rod, a screw part, or even wire. With insert molding, you can create this metal and plastic part combination in a single molding process, eliminating the need for additional steps.

2) Overmolding, on the other hand, allows you to combine two different plastic parts in one plastic injection molding operation. You create the first plastic part in the main mold. Then, you place the second plastic part onto the main mold. Overmolding allows you to combine two different plastic material types while ensuring that they are compatible with each other.
